OILY skin

OILY skin

Oily skin often has dilated pores. The overall appearance of the skin is glossy and the color may be slightly grayish. This skin type is characterized by an excess of sebum and an increased amount of fixed fats in the subcutaneous adipose tissue.

Oily skin is prone to pimples, blackheads and can develop acne. In the long run, a thickening of the stratum corneum is observed and the skin tone may become uneven. May develop asphyxiated skin. Sometimes superficial dehydration can occur because sebum in the seborrheic state is hydrophobic and blocks the circulation of intracellular water. Hyperactivity of the sebaceous glands is influenced by several factors: chronic constipation, liver disorders, endocrine disorders, stress, nervous disorders.

Oily skin care routine

Even if you do not wear makeup, the skin should be cleansed. In fact, the term make-up removal covers in common parlance the cleansing of the face, not just the removal of the make-up. It is an essential step in any skin care routine. It is recommended to cleanse the skin in the evening to remove dirt from the environment, pollution, makeup and release the skin of secretions, dead cells, excess sebum and in the morning to release the skin of sebum and secreted toxins. Compositions that stimulate sebum secretion should be avoided. Occasionally, for skin that is not sensitive and does not have broken capillaries, a facial sauna (steam bath) can be made to open and release the pores, and for a deep cleansing, after which a cleansing mask will be applied.

  • remove makeup with an oily, biphasic cleanser or even with a vegetable oil, especially if the makeup contains the water-resistant element. A cleansing milk (fluid emulsion) can also be used. After cleansing, a micellar water can be used to remove traces
  • a cleansing is performed with a cleanser (cleansing gel) suitable for oily skin, which contains surfactants. The skin will be rinsed with clean water
  • the next step is the application of a toner - which can be a solution composed of several ingredients, it can be a floral water (rosemary, lavender, witch hazel) or a tonic lotion with the addition of sebum-regulating and/or astringent ingredients

SKINCARE - daily

During the day, apply a cream that should be as light as possible, non-greasy and with a light texture. It is optimal to contain only a few oils (the "dry" kind), antioxidants, ingredients that balance the secretion of sebum, possibly purifying active ingredients and few emollients. Instead of the day cream, a tonic lotion may be enough if it contains moisturizing and antioxidant ingredients. For the night you can apply a cream, daily or 2-3 times a week. Generally, 15 minutes after applying a night cream on oily skin, the unabsorbed layer is recommended to be removed with a towel (slightly damp). There are opinions according to which oily skin does not need night cream applied, and one should be applied only on the eye area. Everyone will choose as they please.

  • for hydration, light creams formulated from ingredients suitable for oily skin will be used, among which we mention: witch hazel water, rosemary or peppermint water, squalane, aloe vera gel/powder, vitamins (especially niacinamide), cucumber extract, rice powder, alum, Marine-Z
  • vegetable oils you can use are: jojoba oil, kukui, watermelon, yangu, macadamia, evening primrose
  • essential oils that can be used are those with specific action, such as: rosemary, bergamot, laurel, tea tree, lime, cypress, green myrtle, petitgrain, lavender

EXFOLIATION - weekly or daily

Exfoliation can be performed mechanically or by chemical action. Deep cleansing helps remove dead cells, refines the texture of the skin, rids the skin of impurities, smoothes the surface of the skin. Mechanical exfoliation is recommended once a week. Exfoliation by chemical action can be done once a week or even daily; it depends on the condition of the skin and the concentration of the exfoliating ingredient. The exfoliating solution can be applied in the evening or in the morning. If applied in the morning, it should be 10-15 minutes before applying the day cream. It is not usually rinsed, but the gel exfoliants will be rinsed 10-15 minutes after application for skin comfort.

  • mechanical exfoliation is performed with a non-oily composition of cream or gel type, which contains vegetable fibers, granules or various seeds chosen according to skin tolerance: ground seeds, strawberry seeds, hibiscus flower exfoliant, jojoba pearls
  • chemical exfoliation is done with the help of BHA acids which are applied in the form of a gel, lotion or aqueous solution

MASKS - weekly or daily

Depending on the condition of the skin, we will opt for a purifying, absorbent, soothing, nourishing, vitaminizing mask. The mask is applied on well-cleansed and dry skin and left for approximately 10 minutes (before feeling discomfort or tightening) then remove with lukewarm water and wipe the face with a cotton pad.

  • the ingredients will be selected taking into account the current needs of the skin: white clay, green clay, crushed fresh fruit, cucumber juice, a little lemon juice, yogurt, alum stone, witch hazel water, vitamin C, egg white and so on
  • masks that are prepared for sebum absorption should not contain vegetable oil and can be applied daily, in the morning after cleansing the skin, as a treatment for several weeks. A simple and effective daily mask can be prepared from green clay and plain water
